Declaration of Independence signer Benjamin Franklin once fashioned a more comfortable and pliable urinary catheter out of silver.

"It is as flexible as would be expected in a thing of the kind, and I imagine will readily comply with the turns of the passage,” Franklin optimistically informed his brother, who suffered from bladder stones.

Even in the 1700s, Franklin knew that although all men may be created equal, their urologic anatomy and physiology are certainly not.
